Systems Engineer – Aviation Mission System (AMS)

About The Role

We are currently looking for a highly driven Systems Engineer to join an agile network development team working on technology for the deployment of secure systems in support of Defence for the Aviation Mission System (AMS) required for both current and future Australian Defence Force capabilities. 

As an AMS Systems Engineer, you will be working on cutting edge technology for the deployment of secure government systems in support of Defence based in Brisbane where you will apply your Systems Engineering knowledge, under the Sigma Bravo Engineering Management System to develop, integrate, deploy, security accredit and certify systems.

As part of a pro-active, hands-on technical team, you will work closely with multiple project managers and the Senior Engineering Manager.

Due to the nature of Sigma Bravo's work, all applicants must have the ability to obtain a minimum of NV1 Security Clearance (usually only granted to Australian Citizens).

Note: As a Defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants must be Australian citizens. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) is applicable and as such, your nationality may be a factor in determining your suitability for this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Requirement Analysis and Development
  • Verification & Validation (V&V)
  • Configuration Management
  • Development of System Design Documentation
  • Development of Certification and System Safety Documentation
  • Conduct and/or Participate in Technical investigations
  • Engineering records keeping under Azure DevOps
  • System Testing (internal and formal)
  • Compliance with Defence Engineering Change Processes
  • Development, review, and approval of technical documentation in accordance with applicable standards and regulations
  • Support and advise the Program Manager with engineering and project deliverables
  • Coordinate and develop engineered solutions in collaboration with Commonwealth and development team.
  • Conduct security accreditation activities to accredit and maintain the system in accordance with Defence policies and emerging Cyberworthiness requirements
  • Work both within and to the requirements of the Commonwealth Authorised Engineering Organisation (AEO)
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders
  • Provide guidance, mentorship and assistance to team members as and when required
  • Communicate with technical and non-technical team members

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

Essential Skills and Knowledge

  • Four-year bachelor’s degree recognised by Engineers Australia at the level of professional engineer.
  • Ability to gain/maintain Australian Security Clearance (NV1)
  • Engineering experience in the design and implementation of Defence systems and / or communication networks or similar complex electronic systems
  • Knowledge of Systems Engineering, System Safety and Software Certification processes
  • Knowledge of Configuration Control processes
  • Knowledge of Software Development Lifecycles such as Agile
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal, to technical and non-technical personnel
  • Strong analytical skills with a methodical team focused approach
  • A willingness to learn, grow and be your best

Desirable Skills and Knowledge

  • Knowledge of Military Command and Control or Defence Aviation environments
  • Knowledge of Civil Aviation or aeronautical information services
  • Experience in using Azure DevOps
  • Previous Defence experience in Joint Mission Planning System (JMPS), Portable Flight Planning Software (PFPS), and/or Execution Planning Software (Xplan)
  • Previous experience working in / with ADF in an engineering capacity, preferably aviation engineering
