Opportunity to join an agile Software Development team for projects such as Joint Electromagnetic Battle Management System and Patriot Excalibur (PEX) in support of Defence. The Joint Electromagnetic Battle Management System supports the conduct of operations through the provision of data, modelling, visualisations and decision support tools for the electromagnetic environment. This includes a consolidated view of capabilities and threats across the Joint Force and in use within the operational area.

The Role

As a Software Engineer your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting in the establishment and updating of the company Software Development Life Cycle, including:
  • Selection of methodologies, tools, processes and procedures.
  • Set up and support of methodologies, tools, processes and procedures.
  • Backlog grooming, including:
  • Identifying and simplifying complex user requirements.
  • Estimating effort required to develop features.
  • Assisting the product owner prioritise features.
  • Assisting the QA-Tester develop testing plans and test cases.
  • Software development in an agile environment, including:
  • Undertaking coding tasks.
  • Coordinating and mentoring junior developers.
  • A willingness to learn and be mentored by other team members.
  • Writing appropriate technical documentation.
  • Solving complex problems that are not always restricted to the code.
  • Fixing defects, even if you didn’t write that code.
  • Participating in Release and Sprint planning activities.
  • Participating in Sprint retrospectives.
  • Solving complex problems that are not always restricted to the code.
  • Escalation of any issues (Software, Hardware, Resources) to the relevant Project Manager.

Due to the nature of Sigma Bravo's work, all applicants must have the ability to obtain a minimum of NV1 Security Clearance (usually only granted to Australian Citizens).

To be successful in this role you will need the following essential skills/experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in software engineering, Computer Science or Information Systems
  • Development experience using Agile methods (Scrum)
  • At least three years of experience developing production quality software in a managed language (e.g. Java or C#) and JavaScript.
  • Knowledge in requirements elicitation, design, development, testing, and release of production quality software.
  • Exposure to contemporary patterns in software development.

Strong interpersonal skills, including:

  • A cooperation team based focus.
  • Experience in liaising between PMs, BAs and testers.
  • A creative approach to solving problems.
  • Ability to develop and implement improvements in development processes.

  • [Desired] Experience with development and deployment of microservices (especially using containers and Kubernetes).
