Software Engineer AMS

The Role

Opportunity to join an Agile Software Development team for the Aviation Mission System (AMS) and other projects. Specific activities and deliverables for Mission Planning System tasks include:

  • Development of Mission Planning System Common Components and Unique Planning Components
  • Production of technical documentation in support of software development lifecycle
  • Develop standardisation mechanisms for PFPS/JMPS
  • Develop mission support products across multiple mediums (e.g. Windows / iOS)
  • Development of standalone (Federated) applications
  • Adhoc technical investigation of MPS related technologies

Duties and Responsibilities

As a software engineer, duties may include:

  • Assisting in the establishment and updating of the company Software Development Life Cycle, including
  • Selection of methodologies, tools, processes and procedures; and
  • Set up and support of methodologies, tools, processes and procedures.
  • Backlog grooming, including:
  • Identifying and simplifying complex user requirements.
  • Estimating effort required to develop features.
  • Assisting the product owner prioritise features.
  • Assisting the QA-Tester develop testing plans and test cases.
  •  Software development in an agile environment, including:
  • Undertaking coding tasks;
  • Coordinating and mentoring junior developers;
  • A wiliness to learn and be mentored by other team members;
  • Writing appropriate technical documentation;
  • Solving complex problems that are not always restricted to the code;
  • Fixing defects, even if you didn’t write that code;
  • Participating in Release and Sprint planning activities.
  • Participating in Sprint retrospectives.
  •  Escalation of any issues (Software, Hardware, Resources) to the relevant Project Manager.

Essential Skills and Knowledge

  • At least three years of experience developing production quality software, using Microsoft products such as C#, .Net, WPF and Visual Studio.
  • Excellent knowledge in requirements elicitation, design, development, testing, and release of production quality software.
  • Exposure to contemporary patterns in software development.
  • Three years experience writing technical documentation that supports software systems including architectural design documents and technical specifications.
  • Strong interpersonal Skills, including:
  • A cooperation team-based focus.
  • Experience in liaising between PM’s, BA’s and testers.
  • A creative approach to solving problems.
  • Ability to develop and implement improvements in development processes.

Desirable Skills and Knowledge

  • Development experience using agile methods (Scrum)
  • A working knowledge of COM Interops
  • Some experience using automated testing tools.
  • Knowledge of Software Certification,
  • Knowledge of ADF aviation.
  • Knowledge of Defence ICT environments.
  • Personal qualities including:
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to take the point of view of the customer
  • A strong desire for quality – close enough is not good enough
  • An ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical people

Due to the nature of Sigma Bravo's work, all applicants must have the ability to obtain a minimum of NV1 Security Clearance (usually only granted to Australian Citizens).
