The Role

Opportunity to join an agile Software Development team for the Aviation Mission System (AMS) Project.

The Technical Lead Software is responsible for:

  • Leading the design, implementation, verification, and documentation of software components.
  • DevSecOps culture and tools execution in the software development team.
  • Implementing the Quality Management System software design standards, processes and patterns with the intent of delivering quality software for end users.
  • Detailing and making architectural decisions which considers target environment, performance / security requirements and existing systems.
  • Identify and managing technical risks within areas of responsibility.
  • Reviewing, verifying, and improving designs against software engineering requirements.
  • Mentoring of junior software engineering staff in the software development team.
  • Planning and estimating software development activities in consultation with all team members.

Duties and Responsibilities

As the Technical Lead Software, duties may include:

  • Software development in an Agile environment, including:
  • Leading the delivery cadence of the agreed software activities.
  • Undertaking coding tasks and evolving the software architecture.
  • Coordinating and mentoring junior developers.
  • A willingness to be in a learning culture and contribute to the team success.
  • Writing appropriate technical documentation and required contracted system delivery documents.
  • Participating in Release activities and Sprint ceremonies.
  • Delivery software backlog maintenance, including:
  • Identifying and simplifying complex Functional / Non-Functional requirements.
  • Grooming backlog items that progress the viability and functionality of the codebase.
  • Estimating effort required to develop features.
  • Assisting the Product Owner to prioritise features and understand team velocity.
  • Assisting the QA-Tester develop testing plans and test cases.
  • Assisting the Software Engineer to verify and validate the software to standards & requirements.
  • Develop solution high level designs and effort estimations for contract negotiations.
  • Escalation of any issues (Software, Hardware, Resources) to the relevant Project Manager.

Essential Skills and Knowledge

  • A bachelor's degree in software engineering, computer science or information systems.
  • Development experience using Agile methods (Scrum)
  • More than seven years of experience developing production quality software; with a focus on the C# language and .NET
  • Excellent knowledge in requirements elicitation, design, development, testing, and release of production quality software.
  • Demonstrated execution of contemporary patterns in software development and the ability to communicate these best practices in code designs / reviews.
  • At least five years’ experience writing technical documentation that supports software systems including architectural design documents and technical specifications.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including:
  • A cooperation team-based focus.
  • Experience in liaising between PM’s, BA’s and testers.
  • Ability to develop and implement improvements in development processes.

Desirable Skills and Knowledge

  • Experience with Azure DevOps Project delivery (Sprint management, Pipelines and Releases)
  • Strong experience in software development in an event-driven runtime environment.
  • Creativity in finding elegant solutions to software development challenges.
  • Knowledge of Software Certification and associated software engineering activities.
  • Knowledge of Defence ICT environments.

Due to the nature of Sigma Bravo's work, all applicants must have the ability to obtain a minimum of NV1 Security Clearance (usually only granted to Australian Citizens).
